What is a fixed appliance?

Fixed appliance has component parts namely Flexible wires, brackets and bands which are temporarily fixed to the teeth. The wire joins all the brackets and allows the teeth to be moved in its appropriate position as per the treatment plan.

Orthodontic braces usually need adjusting every 4 to 6 weeks.

The retainers hold newly straightened teeth in position while the surrounding gum and bone settles. The retainers can be removable or fixed, depending on the original problem.

Aligners

As the demand for the esthetic treatments is increasing, more people are seeking clear aligners. Clear aligners provide an esthetic and comfortable treatment experience, facilitate oral hygiene and causes less pain as compared to fixed orthodontic appliances, reduces the number and duration of the appointments. Clear aligners can be used in mild to moderate crowding cases but caution must be exercised in complex cases. The total duration of the treatment is much shorter when compared to fixed aligners. Obtaining periodontal health is easier in patients treated with clear aligners and less chances of traumatic ulcer development during treatment. It also provides long term stability.
